KILL II THIS Enter Studio To Record Their Final Album
May 29, 2004Britain's KILL II THIS are currently recording their fifth — and final — album, "Requiem", tentatively due in September.
Commented mainman/guitarist Mark Mynett: "Basically, everyone in the band is moving on, in one way or another. Speaking for myself, I want to move away from writing in the style and genre of KILL II THIS, that I have felt restricted by for a while. I have recently started writing material with James Manning from VACANT STARE, in a VERY different style to KILL II THIS, and have been devoting more of my time to production, having recently done 1000 POINTS OF HATE (to be released next month by Copro) and theEVERYTHING FOR SOME album.
"Contrary to current rumors, Mr. Phil Bretnall WILL be the vocalist on the album, but following which he will be concentrating on his hardcore band PROFANE, whose activities had always been limited due to the amount of time KILL II THIS were on tour," Mark continued. "Steve Rooney made the decision following the MACHINE HEAD tour, that his heart no longer lies with the drumming style of KILL II THIS and the metal genre in general, and has therefore decided not to commit to doing the drum tracks for this last album. As such, 'Requiem' will feature original KILL II THIS [and current PARADISE LOST] drummer Jeff Singer (from 'Another Cross 2 Bare' and 'Deviate') who has been writing the album with myself and Phil for the last couple of months.
"Anyway, the album is sounding absolutely killer!...somewhere between the more hardcore metal style of 'Another Cross to Bare' and the epic feel that most of 'Deviate' had. Once again, I'll be handling the album's production duties.
"I'll take this opportunity to thank absolutely everyone that has supported KILL II THIS over the years. In all sincerity, it has meant more to me than you'll ever know. I have had the most phenomenal, mind-blowingly amazing experiences being part of this band! So much so, that I can't even find the words to tell you about the memories I have (touring with the likes of MACHINE HEAD, MEGADETH, SLIPKNOT, ANTHRAX, TYPE O NEGATIVE [and] SOULFLY, appearing to 6 million people live on French TV etc etc.)... it was all just so totally awesome!
"Clearly KILL II THIS always had a shelf-life, and I am in no doubts whatsoever that this is the right time to bow out, and for all of us to start concentrating on pastures new, wherever they may be."
